After a period of more than 10 months, the construction of the Momentum Scan is almost complete. To see the ship at the quayside at Peters Shipyards, you’d expect it to sail away at any moment for its first 'heavy lift' contract. But appearances are deceptive: workers are still busy day and night, fitting out the interior and installing all sorts of equipment, several tests of the generators and main engine are still to be completed.
On Tuesday, October 19, the Momentum Scan leaves for Amsterdam, seeing the open sea a few days later for the first time. Because of a width of 17.8metres, the new ship can pass through the numerous bridges and locks on the route only by night. The Momentum Scan is expected to arrive at IJmuiden on 22 October, and from there to embark on a first test run in the North Sea.
